Workban or Linear: which fits your team with AI agents?

Linear is an issue tracker for product and engineering teams in which agents get issues assigned, such as Codex. Workban shows what people and agents like Claude Code and Codex are working on in the terminal right now, without keeping tickets up to date. Here is where they differ.

  • Linear
  • Claude Code and Codex

In short

Delegating or working along.

In Linear, you hand an issue to an agent: you assign it or mention the agent in a comment, and it works on it. Codex, for example, starts a task in the cloud for this, posts progress to the issue and leaves a summary and a link at the end, from which you create a pull request.

Workban is built for the other way of working: developers work with Claude Code or Codex in their own terminal, step by step. The agent creates its task as it goes and closes it, and the team sees live which session is working on what, how long it takes and what it costs.

Workban

Why teams with AI agents choose Workban.

  • Your developers work with Claude Code or Codex in the terminal, and nobody should log issues after the fact
  • You want to see live which session is working on what, whether it is testing or waiting for an answer
  • Time and AI cost per task and project should add up by themselves
  • You want to use Claude Code with your Claude subscription, such as Max
  • An agent should break a concept into tasks, and several sessions should build them at the same time, each visible on the board
  • The board should run on the office screen, without a login
  • You want nothing to set up and no workflows to maintain

Both

Linear for issues, Workban for the sessions?

That works, but without a bridge: Workban has no Linear integration, and the tasks live apart. A team can plan issues in Linear and use Workban to see what the local agents are doing about them right now.

If you plan without target dates and cycles, Workban is enough on its own: tasks and projects, time and AI cost in one place, and the agents keep it up to date themselves.

Questions

What people often ask.

Is Workban a Linear alternative?
Yes. Both have tasks and projects, and a task in Workban is what Linear calls an issue. On top, you see live what people and agents are working on and what it costs. Target dates, milestones and cycles are left out of Workban on purpose, so there is nothing to maintain.
Can Claude Code work on issues in Linear?
The Linear sources name Codex and GitHub Copilot as agents. With Workban, Claude Code works locally: it creates its own tasks on the board while you work with it.
What does Workban cost in comparison?
Workban is free, and you sign up without a card. You pay for AI as before, at Anthropic or OpenAI.
